    Creamy Yogurt Herb Dressing (Vegan)

    Jump to Recipe

This vegan yogurt dressing is rich, creamy, and loaded with fresh herbs, yet comes together quickly with a handful of ingredients. The tanginess of the yogurt with a little fresh lemon juice, dill, and mint makes any salad more exciting, or use it as a dip to make any pile of raw veggies even more appetizing. Pro tip: The flavors come out even more as it sits in the fridge, so make it ahead of time for maximum flavor!

a glass round bowl of creamy yogurt herb salad dressing including vegan yogurt, lemon juice, maple syrup, mint and dill and salt and pepper sits on a gray surface along with a half of a fresh lemon and some fresh dill and mint bunches in the background.

I cannot get enough of this creamy dressing. It's wild how simple it is to throw together, yet the flavor tastes so bright and fresh. I think it's the combo of all the fresh herbs with tangy yogurt and bright lemon juice. This is seriously a match made in heaven!

You can serve it as a dressing over a regular green salad, use it to make a deliciously herby cucumber salad, or enjoy it with fresh vegetables and pita bread for a vegan meze.

It's so versatile and lasts in the fridge for nearly a week, so you can make it once and enjoy again and again!

Why you’ll love this Vegan Yogurt Sauce Recipe

    • The flavors are similar to ranch dressing, but much brighter and fresher
    • Completely oil-free yet deliciously creamy thanks to plant-based yogurt
    • Relies on a handful of super simple ingredients already hanging out in your fridge
    • Thick and creamy (although you can adjust the consistency with a little extra lemon juice)
    • Made with simple, whole foods - no additives, thickeners, or preservatives
    • Makes a great quick sauce to serve with grilled veggies, pita bread, and more

    Ingredients for Creamy Herb Dressing

We're using some very basic ingredients here. It really doesn't take much to make a delicious dressing from scratch, as long as you're starting with fresh, flavorful ingredients. Be sure to use really freshest herbs you can find for the most flavor.

    • Non-dairy yogurt - There are lots of options for dairy-free yogurt. Just be sure to use an unsweetened yogurt. It can be thinner, like regular yogurt, or for a thicker dressing, use vegan Greek yogurt.
    • Fresh herbs - Fresh is best. I like to use a combination of fresh dill and mint for a really bright, refreshing flavor, but you can easily play around with other herbs.
    • Pure maple syrup - For just a little bit of sweetness to mellow out the tanginess of the yogurt.
    • Lemon juice - Fresh lemon juice really brings out the flavor of the herbs.
    • Salt and black pepper

How to Make Vegan Yogurt Dressing

    • To a small bowl or jar, add yogurt, lemon, maple syrup, salt and pepper.
    • Mix until well combined, then add fresh herbs and mix well.

    Storing Suggestions

Place any extra dressing an airtight container in the fridge and store for up to 5 days. You may need to give it a quick stir before using.

Tips for Making the Best Vegan Yogurt Dressing

    • Customize to your heart's content. This recipe is delicious on its own and can easily be adapted to make it your own. For a spicier flavor, add 1-2 cloves of fresh garlic or a some red pepper flakes. Change the herbs and add a little fresh parsley or basil. Use lemon zest in addition to the juice for an even brighter flavor.
    • Make it thicker. Use a Greek-style yogurt for a thicker, richer consistency.
    • Let it rest. The flavors really start to bloom when you let the sauce rest for at least 30 minutes. The flavor oils from the herbs start to mix with the lemon juice and yogurt and everything tastes even better. For the boldest flavor, make it the night before and keep it in the fridge until you need it.

Can you use other types of yogurt?

Yes, you can use any type of plain yogurt for this dish. Soy yogurt, coconut yogurt, almond yogurt, etc...there's no right or wrong answer here. You can technically make it with regular yogurt, too, but then it won't be non-dairy or vegan. Just be sure to unsweetened yogurt to keep from changing the flavor profile.

    How to Serve

This vegan yogurt dressing is one of my favorite condiments. Sure, you can drizzle it over your favorite salad for a cooling, herby note, but it's capable of even more than that.

I use a version of it in this Dill Cucumber Yogurt Salad, which is the ultimate refresher on those warm summer days.

It's also lovely served over falafel, vegan kebabs, and more as part of a Mediterranean inspired feast.

Try serving it over a grain bowl with lots of summer veggies and beans for a cooling meal when the temperatures spike.

Or, keep it thick and creamy to use as a dip for veggie sticks, pita chips, and more.
