What is a protein breakfast smoothie?

A protein breakfast smoothie is a glorious thing! These shakes are made by combining frozen fruits and milks or juices with a protein powder diet supplement. These powders can vary in ingredients and protein content but the intent is to help you meet your protein goals by drinking them.

My favorite protein powder to put in breakfast smoothies is Ora Organic Clean Vegan Protein Powder. I am usually a skeptic about these powders as they are usually gritty or chalky and have an unpleasant aftertaste. Ora has Chef approved flavors like my favorite Vanilla protein which has a delicious vanilla taste and zero chalk LOL.

Why you'll love this Strawberries & Cream Vegan Protein Breakfast Smoothie

    • Tastes delicious like a strawberry banana milkshake
    • Just 5 ingredients, perfect for a beginner smoothie maker
    • Comes together super quickly, easy breakfast option
    • No crazy ingredients, no searching for obscure foods at the store

    Smoothie Pro Tip

If you want to start drinking smoothies on the regulars, prep your bananas like a pro! Peel a whole bunch of bananas or two and break them into quarters and put in a ziplock or Tupperware to freeze. The small pieces blend much easier than whole bananas and they are way easier to deal with. Plus they freeze quicker!

Strawberries and Cream Vegan Breakfast Smoothie Ingredients

This is such a short list, it's barely an ingredient list!

    • Banana: Banana really gives smoothies a great texture boost
    • Frozen Strawberries-Give it the pink color and sweet berry tang
    • Plant Milk: Use Oat milk, Almond Milk, or any that is your preference
    • Vegan Greek Yogurt: For probiotics and extra creaminess
    • Protein Powder: I use my favorite Vanilla flavor Ora Protein Powder

How to Make a Vegan Protein Breakfast Smoothie

Making a protein smoothie is very easy. Just add everything to a blender and puree. It's really that simple, even a toddler can make one. In fact, kids love making smoothies. Especially pressing the buttons on the blender

    • Add the items to the blender in this order for easiest blending. Plant milk, ice, bananas, strawberries, yogurt and protein. Blend until smooth and enjoy immediately.

Tips for Making the Best Protein Breakfast Smoothie

    • Get creative! Add or substitute frozen berries or tropical fruits
    • Try using light unsweetened coconut milk to make it extra creamy
    • Freeze fresh berries in season for smoothies later. While frozen berries from the market are fine, fresh ones that are frozen can be fantastic
    • Make sure there are no lumps! Don't rush the blend.

    FAQs

Do I need to use protein powder?

Well, no, but then it will just be a fruit smoothie instead of a protein smoothie. Smoothies are delicious, but without the added protein the macros won't be balanced enough to call it breakfast!

Can I use dairy milk and yogurt?

Yes of course, you can sub that for the plant products. And you can use whichever type of protein you like too.

Do I need a fancy, expensive blender?

Nope! Any high speed blender will work as long as you load it up in the order of the recipe to keep those blades moving smoothly.

Does Ora Protein Powder really taste that good?

I kid you not, this stuff tastes great. Before Ora, I thought all protein powders were disgusting. But they have changed my mind! No stevia, no sweet and funky aftertaste and no grit. This stuff is awesome.

What kind of vegan yogurt do you recommend?

My favorite brands of vegan yogurt are Forager Project, Kite Kill and CocoJune but really any brand you can find will work. My least favorite is Oat yogurt as it's not as creamy.
