This gorgeous orange tahini dressing is sweet, creamy, and packed with flavor thanks to tahini and fresh mandarin oranges. It's totally dairy-free, yet rich enough to elevate your favorite salads, grain bowls, or even roasted veggies. Think of it as your new salad BFF - quick, easy, and packed with enough flavor to make any plate of veggies way more exciting.

Okay, I admit it - I'm obsessed with tahini. It's my favorite oil alternative for salad dressings, allowing you to make a totally luscious, creamy dressing without any mayo or sour cream.
Plus, it adds serious flavor. I love how the tahini is earthy, nutty, and slightly bitter, adding complexity and depth of flavor instantly.
This simple dressing is the secret to the best Rainbow Vegan Chop Salad, bring all of the other ingredients together in just the right way.
It's one of those recipes that seems almost too simple, but every element balances and complements the next. Plus, it works any time of the year! It's just as refreshing in the middle of summer with garden fresh fruits and veggies as it is in the cold, dark months of winter alongside hearty roasted roots and squash.
It's a true multi-tasker, and I'm sure you'll love it just as much as I do!
Sara's note: I'm a huge fan of tahini and love to use it in lots of different ways. Explore all of my vegan tahini recipes here.

Ingredients for Orange Tahini Dressing
We're relying on basically three main ingredients here: runny tahini, fresh oranges and lemons, and a little maple syrup. You'll need to add a little water and salt to get the right consistency and flavor, but that's it. Since it's such a simple recipe, be sure to use fresh, high-quality ingredients.
- Sesame tahini - Tahini is basically like peanut butter, but made with ground sesame seeds. This gives it an earthy, nutty taste with a subtle bitterness that helps balance sweeter ingredients, like fresh citrus and maple. Plus, tahini is a great source of healthy fats, particularly monounsaturated fats, and antioxidants.
- Fresh mandarin orange juice - Mandarin oranges are typically more tart than sweet, which helps keep this creamy tahini orange dressing from tasting too sugary. You can certainly substitute other types of oranges and adjust the sweetness to taste.
- Fresh lemon juice - For a little brightness and extra acidity.
- Water - The amount varies depending on how thin your tahini is and how thick you like your dressings to be.
- Pure maple syrup - Add a little bit of sweetness to balance the tartness of the fresh orange juice.
- Salt - Salt brings out flavor and really makes this homemade dressing pop.

How to Make Orange Tahini Dressing
- To a bowl add tahini, orange and lime juice, water, maple and salt.
- Whisk until smooth and creamy, then serve.
Note: Since Tahini brands differ quite a bit in thickness, you may want to add a bit more water or a bit more tahini to get the consistency desired. That won’t make a big difference in the flavor so just eye it.

Storing Suggestions
Store any leftover dressing in an airtight glass jar in the fridge for up to 7 days. You may need to shake or whisk it again before serving.
Tips for Making the Best Orange Tahini Dressing
- Add some heat. Blend some fresh ginger into the dressing for a bright heat.
- Use a runny tahini. The best tahini should be thin and loose, not thick like peanut butter. My favorite tahini bread is Mighty Sesame. It pours great and blends perfectly every time.
- Focus on fresh. Use fresh orange juice and lemon juice instead of store-bought juices. Feel free to add some citrus zest for an even stronger flavor.

Serving Suggestions
Although this tahini orange dressing is intended as a salad dressing, that's just one option.
Think of it as a flavorful, nutritious drizzle that can impart richness and freshness to any recipe, whether it's a simple bed of salad greens, your favorite grain bowl, roasted veggies, and more.
It's the perfect sauce to take any of your favorite veggies to the next level.

This is absolutely divine! I whipped this dressing up quickly to use in a fall inspired bowl with roasted sweet potatoes, chickpeas, farro, apples, pomegranates, toasted pumpkin seeds, and walnuts, on a bed of Massaged kale. I also followed your suggestion and added a kick of ginger. It was so wonderful!
Can you tell I’m looking forward to Autumn?
