This homemade vegan ranch dressing is to die for. It is so simple yet full of real buttermilk ranch flavor. You will be shocked that this is 100 percent vegan. Nobody will believe you that this is totally dairy-free. It is creamy and decadent but has all the tang, all the creamy and all the herby flavors you crave. It's great for dipping, drizzling and tossing. I love this one for buffalo chickpea and buffalo tofu salads or dipping crunchy treats like vegan broccoli balls. My kids are obsessed with ranch dressing on their pizza and they hardly even noticed when I switched out their beloved Hidden Valley Ranch for my vegan ranch. In my eyes that is the biggest win of all!
What is Ranch Dressing?
Ranch dressing is a creamy American condiment that people use for salads or for a dipping sauce. It is usually made with buttermilk, sometimes mayo, aromatics like onion and garlic, herbs and pepper. Ranch is super creamy, herby and a little tangy with a distinct flavor. Unfortunately ranch is not a healthy dressing despite its deliciousness. It is high in both calories and fat which makes it not so ideal for snacking without strict portioning. My vegan ranch is lower in calories and fat making it a much better choice.
Ingredients for Homemade Vegan Ranch
The ingredients for this vegan ranch dressing are really basic and easy to find in most markets. When selecting a vegan yogurt, choose a plain unsweetened one. I prefer an almond or cashew yogurt rather than coconut because they have less distinct flavor. My favorites are Forager Project and Kite Hill. You can use any combo of fresh herbs you like.
- plain vegan yogurt
- maple syrup
- salt
- copious black pepper
- garlic powder
- tsp onion powder
- chopped fresh herbs (combo of dill, parsley, cilantro and mint)
- white vinegar

Your recipes look fantastic and I love the idea of making salads that look like something you actually want to eat.
Would it be possible to have a cup to metric translation please?
Sara Tercero
Thank you Rachel. I will look into it to see if there is a plugin for that because manually computing all my recipes into metrics is not an easy step. My meal planner app does have the metric conversion option though if you are interested in that.
