What's in the Oil Free Favorites Ebook?
For Betterfoodguru's first foray into oil-free, we have compiled 21 savory vegan recipes that have no added oils. Included are soups, salads, dips and sandwich fillings. All recipes are suitable for beginner cooks and experts alike. Since the recipes are written in the style of all Betterfoodguru recipes, they are easy to understand and easy to follow. Some people understand the no-oil concept as having no fat or no natural oils involved with the ingredients. To further clarify, these recipes are not fat free. Some include nut and seed butters, avocados and vegan yogurts. However, these recipes are titled oil free recipes because they do not include any processed oils in the recipe ingredients.
We have also written a brief introduction to the concept of oil-free vegan cooking. This is to give a succinct explanation to folks who have never heard of oil free. Why oil-free?
While I am not an expert on the subject of nutrition or medicine, I can briefly give a layperson's explanation of the concept. Many people believe that oils can cause inflammation in the body and that cutting down or eliminating oils can be very healthy. Some that say that because oils have been processed, they have been stripped of their fiber and nutrients. This is what makes them not ideal for a healthy diet.
I cannot say for sure because I am not a medical professional or an RD, but I do know that oils are extremely calorically dense while being low in vitamins and fiber. It makes sense to me, that cutting out oil could aid in weight loss as oil could easily derail any diet even consumed in small amounts.
Is Betterfoodguru Oil-free?
Chef Sara, the founder and creative force behind Betterfoodguru is plant-based and vegan, but she is not oil-free. While many arguments are quite compelling for an oil-free diet, she will continue making most of her vegan recipes low-oil and with low salt and sugar. Because her regular recipe repertoire is so low in oil, salt and sugar they are very easy to adapt for an SOS diet. But that does not mean we don't enjoy a great oil free recipe several times a week!
